Eyeglass Collection Program
DONATE YOUR USED EYEGLASSES AT ONE OF OUR MANY DROP OFF SIGHTS
The Coquitlam River Lions are proud to support the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center (CLERC) and the Third World Eye Lab (TWEC). We support these organizations in two ways:
through the collection of used eyeglasses at one of our drop off sites listed below.
monthly volunteering at TWEC to clean and sort donated eyeglasses.
We would like to invite you to join us at one of our volunteering events at TWEC. Our volunteering events take place on the first Monday evening of each month, in their lab located at 7420 Mulberry Place, Burnaby, BC. Knights of the Blind:
The term “Knights of the Blind” refers to a designation used by Lions Clubs International to highlight their mission to fight blindness and support people with visual impairments. It is a term that was coined by the founder of Lions Clubs, Melvin Jones, to symbolize the commitment of Lions members to eliminating preventable blindness and providing services to those who are blind or visually impaired.
The term is also linked to Helen Keller’s call to the Lions in 1925, when she addressed the International Convention and asked the Lions to become "Knights of the Blind" in the fight against blindness. This powerful speech galvanized Lions Clubs International to make vision care one of their key causes and continues to be a central part of their mission today.
In essence, "Knights of the Blind" symbolizes Lions’ dedication to ending blindness and improving the lives of those affected by it through advocacy, service, and support.
